FAQ
What are the accommodations for the retreat?
Participants will be staying in a shared house in Oceanside, California. Each participant will have their own private room with an adjacent private bathroom. During the retreat all meals and snacks will be provided, with a continental breakfast and catered lunch and dinner.
Why are there different fees?
There are limited number of king sized bedrooms and downstairs bedrooms. Participants who want to reside in the larger downstairs rooms will pay the larger fee. We have reserved a lower priced accessibility bedroom at the street level as well. First come first serve!
How do I get a scholarship or reduced fee?
When you apply for the retreat, you will be asked why you are interested in attending. Make sure that you mention here you are interested in a reduced fee or a scholarship. Our goal is inclusivity! We want you here with us, so don't be afraid to ask for any other accommodations as well. Have fun and let us know who you are and what you need.
Will there be a writing workshop?
Yes, there will be two short generative workshops and opportunities to share work with others. However, as this is writing retreat, we hope participants will utilize the majority of the time writing and creating community with other writers. We envision walks on the beach, pajama parties, quiet writing time, patio lounges, and laughter and lots of love. We want to support you in your goals whatever they may be.
What is the Wild Seeds on the Beach Anthology?
The Wild Seeds on the Beach Anthology is the first of an anthology series of poetry, prose, photography, and illustrations that highlight black women writers. Because we are funded by the California Arts Council for this project, all participants should plan to have their work included as a part of this anthology. Our anthologies are meant to highlight the beauty of black women and their words in a co-created (yes that means you!) celebratory book.
What if I cannot attend all four days?
You can still participate, but you need to contact us or make us aware of any special accommodations. Please expect to pay the full fee even if you cannot attend the entire retreat to secure any overnight stay.
What if I have specific dietary needs?
Once we accept you as an attendee, please let us know if you have dietary needs and we will do our best to accommodate you. We will provide all meals, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks is you wish! We will have a full kitchen for participant use.
